Designing Your Own Space: Bedrooms
Whether you have two people living in a house or ten, everyone deserves to have a space they can call their own. Having a comfortable place to retreat is important for, well, maintaining a good level of sanity. Of course you will want your bedroom to be a reflection of you, but sometimes a little creative inspiration is needed. Here are some things to think about when designing your dream space in your dream home.
Room Location
Depending on your preference, you may want all your bedrooms on the same level or in the same area of your house. If you want a little separation, you could design the house to have a “master wing,” so you can have some privacy and quiet space away from your kids or have a “guest wing” so your guests can be more self-sufficient when they stay with you.
Window Size and Placement
Do you like waking up with the sun? Design your bedroom to have east-facing windows so you can rise with the sun. Do you often watch movies in bed? You might want to position your windows to minimize the amount of light let into the room.
Closet Space
Many homebuilders opt for walk-in closets or custom built-in storage. If this is the case, you could probably make your actual room a bit smaller. However, if you have a large wardrobe you want to add to the space, you will want to make your room slightly larger. You should also accommodate for a sitting space if you want your room to be more than just a place to sleep.
En Suites
En suite bathrooms are becoming increasingly popular, even outside of the master bedroom. Decide now if you want the bedrooms designed as suites, if you want a Jack and Jill bathroom between two rooms, or if you are content with multiple people sharing a single bathroom.
After you have decided the physical layout of your bedroom, it’s time to decorate. The options are literally endless, but if you want a good starting point, pick a color palate. “design-seeds.com” and “paletton.com” have great tools and templates to help you find a color scheme to fit the feel of your room, whether it be cool and calming or warm and romantic.
